James S. Dolan, President
A Marine Corps veteran, James was a member of the LAFD for 31 years. His ranks included firefighter, engineer, inspector, captain I and captain II. He served as a Los Angeles Firemen’s Relief Association board member for 17 years, a Southern Area Fire Equipment Research board member for 14 years, and has been a LAFFA board member for 26 years. He is currently on staff at the Relief Association where he has been since 2010. James and his wife Cathy have been married for 40 years; they have two children and one grandchild.
Adam Van Gerpen, Vice President
Adam served as a SGT in the Marine Corps and has been a member for the LAFD for 25 years and is currently serving as a Captain I / Public Information Officer. He served on the UFLAC Executive Board for 10 years and is currently also the President of the Los Angeles Fire and Police Veterans Association. Adam’s brother Ian is also a LAFD Captain and his father was a Seattle Firefighter for 35 years. Adam is working on his Bachelors Degree from Purdue Global University and has two kids in college.
David P. Frelinger II, Treasurer
Following an LAFD career that spanned 39 years, during which he was a certified paramedic and strike team leader for wildland fires throughout California, David retired as a battalion chief. He has been a member of the LAFFA board for 21 years, 11 of those as president, working to represent the membership at the local and state level. David graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a B.S. in biology.
Rich Moody, Secretary
Rich was the 2023 Firefighter of the Year and has been proudly serving the citizens of Los Angeles for over 25 years. Rich is currently working at the Critical Incident Tactical and Planning Section (CIPTS) where he supports the Department’s logistics section. He has led many logistics events including the Space Shuttle move team, US Special Olympics, and most recently the Palisades Fire.
